Micah's First Birthday - July 19, 2013

So super late, but here are few pictures from Micah's first birthday. It was a great celebration with many friends and family. We couldn't have asked for a better party!

Almost One

Time is flying by and I have been a total slacker on the Baby Blum Blog... just realized it's been almost two months since the last post. Summer has gotten away from me. Since May we've had to put Kona down. This was really hard and sad, but she wasn't the same cat and decided it was best for her and us. Hilo seems to be doing fine so far. I am sure she misses her sister, but is taking being a solo kitty well. Some day we will get a dog for her to befriend and she has a temporary friend staying with us for now, Manny. Maybe they will learn to get along :) . Micah is growing leaps and bounds these days. He has three teeth coming in for a total of 12. He can eat pretty much anything and has started to be weaned from formula. We will start him on cow's milk in the next couple weeks, will see how no bottles go. Saturday is Micah's first birthday party. More pictures to come of that! Here are a few from May/June:

Happy Belated Mother's Day

Once again, I have been slacking on posts. It's been a month. We are still busy working on the house, carpet should show up next week. Both kitties made it through the Easter lily disaster. Kona is a little wacky ever since, but seems to be getting back to normal slowly. The weather is finally turning for the better and live is plugging along.

Micah has decided it's time to walk! He is cruising all over the house. He pretty much decided Mother's Day was the day to make it official even though he has been trying for about a month. He finally got the hang of it and now tries to walk everywhere he goes. It's so fun to watch, he's growing so fast!

Easter Lily Madness

We spent last week dealing with a kitty crisis. Either Hilo, Kona or both cats ate part of an Easter Lily. Turns  out Easter Lily (lilies in general) are one of the most lethal plants for cats by causing kidney failure within 2-4 days if not treated right away. So needless to say both cats were in and out of the vet getting multiple injections of subcutaneous fluids to flush out their system Monday through Wednesday. We thought Kona was a goner by Wednesday, turns out her blood work was fine, just ended up with a bladder infection from all of the stress of the plant/vet. We still don't know if she is the one that ate the plant, but 'I'm going to say 90% sure it was her. Luckily the vet knew what he was doing and was able to save our little girls. Micah was oblivious to all of this, and we are thankful for both grandmas who were around to watch him while we were dealing with the cats. They have used up one or more of their nine lives, but grateful they made it through.

Micah is plugging along. Still teething, trying to walk and cruising all over the house. He has master the stairs. Yesterday he made it up the entire basement stairway. I was behind him the whole time, of course, but amazing how strong that little man is.

Made the Move

We are officially Medina residents! It's been a crazy week but the new house is so much better. It's nice to know this is our home for the long haul. The weekend started off with movers last Saturday at 8 am and cleaning/moving through Sunday night. We spend Monday afternoon at the hospital where Joe thought he was having heart issues. turns out it was just stress, etc. from the move. By Friday Micah was sleeping in his crib..all night long..!!!!! So far we've made it almost a week with him sleeping through the night .It's been the best part of the move. It's been a stressful but great week and a half so far. We are looking forward to making the house our own and updating as needed.

Micah has three floors of toys now and the cats are in heaven! Micah is completely on the move. He's even discovered how to climb stairs. We've got baby gates for the top of the stairs, but not the bottom so just have to keep a close eye on him these days. That kid is growing so fast!

Crawling Craziness

Micah has mastered crawling in a matter of a couple weeks. He is now cruising around the house so staying busy to keep him out of trouble. He hasn't discovered cupboards yet so hoping we can get away without baby proofing the NE house before we move in two weeks.

We've been busy getting the new house ready, spending the last couple weekends fixing and updating the house. Can't wait to move in and have lots of room for Micah to roam. It will also be nice to have carpet so Micah can cruise without falling and hurting himself on the wood floors. The next big project is to baby proof the house! I would like to get this done  before we move in so we don't have to worry about it.

We have decided that it's time for Micah to start sleeping in a crib in his own new room. I know, we should have done this a long time ago, but the current house isn't set up well for his nursery. The new house will be much better and make it more bearable to get him used to sleeping in his own room. Hopefully he transitions well and it's not too hard on him or us. Fingers crossed!

On the Move

We bought a house on Wednesday and are moving to the boonies! Mom likes to call it Tom Sawyer land, basically moving to the woods to give Micah a wilderness playground. It's in Medina/Maple Plain. The new house will be great other than the commute to work. Good thing that is only 3 days a week!

Speaking of moving, Micah has figured out how to crawl this week. He's hasn't mastered it by any means, but he is definitely on the move. He has also figured out how to stand with assistance, whether a piece of furniture or one of us, but he will be walking way to soon. I am really hoping that I can keep him at bay for a couple weeks so that we don't have to baby proof this house for two weeks since we are moving soon. Fingers crossed!

Cruising' Kiddo

Micah is days away from crawling..SCARY. Just today he figured out to go from all fours to sitting up and has already mastered it after a few attempts. He is trying to move forward but can't quite get the coordination to do so. He moves backwards like a champ already and now goes from back to sitting up to back to attempting to go forward...just a matter of time!

He has also decided that at 6 months he loves the pacifier. WE tried for months to get him to take it at night to help with sleeping, soothing, etc to no avail. Now, within the last two weeks he has decided that he loves his nook, such a weirdo. At least now we have a way to sooth him when he is freaking out, especially in the middle of the night. Guess we will have to ween him off eventually, but for now we are happy to allow it.

Micah has now tried many different food options with no problems. So far no allergies! Time to start green options...stinky!

Major Milestones

It has been a couple weeks, but I was in Chicago this past week for work, so slacker on my part. Micah is growing leaps and bounds these days.

He is completely sitting up on his own and can stay this way for long periods of time. It's a great new found independence that we are all enjoying. He can now keep himself entertained without one of us holding him at all hours of the day. It's been a great lifestyle change!

Micah now has 6 teeth! They have all come in and he is no longer teething. There is still a lot of drool and they seem to bother him a little bit these days, but the major teething is hopefully on a stand still for the time being. We will see how long we get before the next round come in. Now that he has so many teeth I've decided to stop nursing him. We used my trip as a time to ween him onto just bottles. He is doing great with the transition and seems to be more satisfied and sleeping  better.

This brings us to his newest milestone, eating solids!! Last night he had his first bowl of rice cereal and he ate it like a champ. We will slowly be introducing more variety and even bought the magic bullet today to make baby food for the near future. It will be fun to see what he likes and dislikes as we try out different foods.

It's amazing how much he changes and how much he is growing day by day. His 6 month check up is next Friday. Can't wait to see what they say about all his growth.

Teething Time

Micah has been teething for the past two weeks, lots of drool, crabbiness and Tylenol  Today 3 our of the 4 top teeth are through and the final one will pop tomorrow at the latest. Hopefully this will relieve some of the pain and discomfort he's been in lately. AND...hopefully calm the drool monster he's become :)

Micah figured out how to sit up on his own!! Big milestone especially before 6 months. Soon he will be crawling, scary.

Joe leave tonight for a boys weekend. This gives me 3 nights alone with the baby. It's going to be interesting to say the least. I give single parents a lot of props as I'm not sure I could do it.

2013 Happy New Year

We made it to 2013. Micah is now 5.5 months old, crazy! He has 3 teeth coming in on the top which scares me since he is already a biter....not fun, but exciting that he is growing so fast and is healthy. The past two weeks have been crazy busy with holiday excitement. Suzi and Jen finally got to meet the little guy and were able to spend some time with him. Christmas was all about the babies which was fun and less stressful. Micah got a bunch of great stuff. Thanks to all family who were so thoughtful :) New Years Eve was fun and Micah was just like his daddy with the FMS kicking in. I think due to teething and not knowing Kevin/Jen's home, he was a mess. Luckily he slept most of Tuesday to make up for it. Here are a few pics from the past couple weeks
